Substance Use Navigator, Compassion Over Stigma

 

At our hospital, we believe everyone deserves care, dignity, and hope—no matter where they are in their journey. Our Substance Use Navigator (SUN) is here to guide patients through the next steps once their immediate medical needs have been met.

Our SUN supports patients of all ages—from youth to older adults—by:

  • Assessing needs to determine the right level of care for Substance Use Disorder (SUD), including low-barrier access to Suboxone when appropriate
  • Providing expert consultation for patients and families about treatment options and recovery resources
  • Connecting patients to community services that can support ongoing recovery
  • Offering post-discharge support to help patients continue their progress after leaving the hospital
  • Advocating for patients to ensure their needs and voices are heard
  • Collaborating with community partners to create a network of care and suppor

Free Narcan® upon request

Anyone can pick up Narcan® (naloxone HCI) nasal spray in our Emergency Room. If you have Narcan® nasal spray during an overdose, you may save a life. Our nurses will provide basic training on how to administer it.

Ashlee DeHerrera

Ashlee is the SUDs Patient Navigator at Watsonville Community Hospital. She is passionate about helping people understand their options for treating their substance use issues and has worked hand-in-hand with countless patients.
